Gema and David said their vows in the quaint and historic Darlington House in La Jolla, CA. The perfect setting for an intimate gathering of their family and closest friends. I was so very thrilled to be in attendance and that my old high school friend has joined forces with such an amazing woman. Such a fantastic end to my 2011 wedding season.

I kid you not this has been in my head since David nervously busted out his guitar…. and Gema decided to sing along with. oh.my.goodness.meltfest 2011.

Hmm….Ballard, Fremont, Wellingford, Greenlake what have you done to me? Seattle, I breathed you in and hugged you tight but this day remains a highlight to my 6 day stay. ( 5.75 days of sunshine and cool breezes!) I know! Lucky us! I can’t wait to write multiple run on sentences about Seattle this and Seattle that….and how I want to get back to shoot more people and things but first and foremost it’s about these two quirky, smart, and off the charts hilarious individuals that tied the knot.

It was a three day event for some as both Kyle and Tricia are from Southern California. A welcome vacation to many including myself. Just as Tricia said in her vows, I will always be sentimental. Sure enough the sentimentality appeared again and again throughout the day from everyone and from what I could see there wasn’t a dry eye in the house during the exchanging of vows.I loved what Tricia, Kyle and their people put together at the beautiful back bar of the Bastille Bar & Cafe in old town Ballard for this intimate gathering of their closest friends and family. I just read on Bastille’s facebook page that this was the first ever wedding and reception to be held at the restaurant. Fancy! The food was fantastic and plentiful.

The running theme for the weekend was “it’s just not that kind of wedding.” Turns out this kind of wedding consisted of flowers from the farmers market, vases from thrift stores, amazing food and drink, a handmade broach bouquet, hand drawn portraits, an awesome macbook photo booth, an iPhone for music, no tossing of the flowers, ~~dancing~~ or cutting cake. I even shot the whole wedding with an iPhone! (ok that’s not really true) Tricia did an amazing job of coordinating, planning and executing her vision. It could not have been pulled off more beautifully.

All that is genuine, unique, and sincere was in attendance and for those who could not make it they were surely there in spirit. I loved the way these two were able to bring people together from different parts of their lives and blend them into one big family certainly is a testament to the type of people they are and who they choose to surround themselves with. Witty banter, Stella Artios, hearty laughs and cupcakes overflowed into the evening out on to a perfect outdoor patio. Guests were not hiding behind digital cameras and because of that they shared many laughs and made new friends. I don’t think I saw one DSLR. Now that is my kind of wedding.

Being present is the best gift you can give to a bride and groom. Many thanks from me as well.

Let’s start with the last two portraits of their unmarried lives just moments before the ceremony. Such an honor to be part of this day.

Who doesn’t love an impromptu call for a headbutt in the middle of the ceremony. classic.and the night wound down with great conversations and an all out dance party session to what was clearly a longstanding favorite song by The Cure. Certainly an evening that will be cherished conversed about for a long time.

My beyond adorable Angel Stadium engagement session couple on their celebration day…and what a wonderful day it was. Great people, outstanding food and a fantastic atmosphere. They said their vows in front of friends and family in a church and brought the party home to TAPS Fish House and Brewery. I will be posting more soon here and on facebook. When I arrived Jacki told me that she had never been professionally photographed and Chad point blank expressed the dread he feels about having his photo taken. I hear this a lot and it makes me so happy that people can genuinely relax and be themselves around me. After a short bit of goofing off their natural chemistry ran the show and they were so much fun to work with. They are just simply adorable and so obviously in love.

Alison & Stephen Married | San Diego Museum of Art Wedding

Ali is one of my closest friends from my days at Cal State Fullerton. She was in the Masters of Photography Program and I was a senior working on my Bachelors. We had an installation/performance art class together and I recall her calling me out in class for a lazy answer I gave regarding our reading assignment. It’s pretty safe to say I didn’t read the assignment in it’s entirety and may have wandered off in a sketch book during the video. My bad. We have been friends ever since and she is one of my favorite people on earth.

I often miss the college days of collaboration, intense focus, deadlines and last minute road trips. We swam laps everyday between classes. We lived off Jamba Juice, sushi, and Thia ice tea. I shot film. She shot a Nikon D100. I am not sure how she did it but she managed to coerce me into being the subject of a few of her assignments. I may be brave enough to post…if she’ll let me. It seems so long ago but oddly just like yesterday.

After we graduated life happened and we fell slightly out of touch but Ali is one of those friends that no matter how much time has passed, no time has passed. The same goes for her wonderful family and friends. Thank goodness for people like Ali. The world needs more people like her. If you know her you know that she is not very fussy. She’s lighthearted and sentimental and finds the good and the joy in everything around her. Cheers to her and Stephen, the boy she went to senior prom with and reconnected through facebook. After seeing them together for only a few minutes it made total sense.

Their sweet intimate ceremony was held at Pocket Park, a quaint and beautiful setting over looking the ocean tucked behind San Diego Museum of Modern Art. The reception was held at The Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego and was pretty fantastic with the Rock and Roll exhibit on display. Special thanks to Bobby for letting me do my thing for a few minutes and wanting me around for reinforcements.

Alison, I have never seen you so happy, so beautiful, and so alive. Thank you for having me and taking a few minutes to allow these images to happen.
