oh boys | a child photographer’s children.

Spring has sprung! My friend Bridget Smith and I couldn’t wait to play. This is kind of a funny story. OK a lot funny. Possibly even more so if you know Bridget and I.

I probably shouldn’t breathe a word of this but it really was pretty darn comical.

Picture this.

Bx4: ‘Hey Aim, get in the car and get your butt over here. We are taking the kids to the burn area. (Yorba Linda) The flowers are off the hook.”
me: Seriously. I saw that place. I know exactly where you are talking about. It’s 5pm do you think I can get there in time?
Bx4: ya. leave now.

We arrive in photographer heaven just in time for sweet light and the boys start running around and having a great time. There is another photographer out there having a session about 50 yards away. (I am SO bringing a family here) I noticed B’s boys getting a little too close to them so I wandered over to wrangle them back closer to where we were with Juliet. Evan, the youngest of the boys comes screaming out of the flowers. I had already figured out what was going on as I brushed passed some stinging nettle. Nice. I pick him up and try to explain to him that it will go away in a few minutes while trying to wrangle Aaron out of the tree. So, with Evan on the left hip and my camera in my right hand I proceeded to trip over a branch and almost fall on my face. nice. I don’t know how these people were not busting up laughing as I assume it was perfect for America’s funniest videos. It had to have been. My shoe came off too so if that paints any sort of a picture. My brain went something like this: Camera- CHECK. Evan – CHECK. You ok over there? Camera’s GOOD! Limbs- CHECK. Thinking: It was a good clean fall as far as falls go anyway and in that moment I seemingly developed a death stare that only mom’s have license for. Get out of the tree now! We get back to where Bx4 is and she is just blissfully snapping away as I recount the happenings and the boys were still being boys they come in contact with more of the devil weed. Snot flies and they are done. done. DONE. As we headed back up to the car they had recovered and B and I continue to shoot.

We were both laughing an glad that it wasn’t a client session. I would still LOVE to take a client here. If you have older children that can follow instructions and you want a striking family session in a location that will not look like this forever. LET’S GO! The stinging nettle is easily identifiable and it’s not everywhere and can be avoided.

How cute are they?

After the fiasco: Still happy. The twins.
